Not really done for yet

“Done with defibrillators!” he declared in spring.

No shock when his heart quivered in November and dropped him to the floor.

A younger Ed clowned and smiled through his memorial slide show. In the final slide, yesterday’s Ed held his tiny grandson like a treasure in his lap, a comma not a period to his life’s story.

A lovely post.

I have a defibrillator, too, and understand the frustration. Sometimes I need to be reminded why I got it in the first place.

Thanks for that.

Hi Helen, Thanks for stopping by. Ed's son told me that Ed's dfibrillator went off while he was delivering a toast at the son's wedding. He stopped cold--mid-sentence--then dropped to one knee. After what seemed like an endless silence, he struggled back to his feet and finished the toast. I gather they pack quite a wallop! What a mixed blessing.

Yes, I think they do. I've had mine for a year now, and it has never gone off. My father's, however, shocked him six times in two minutes while he was exercising. All of the shocks were inappropriate. Needles to say, it was not a pleasant experience for him and made us all a bit jumpy. But we know it's there for a reason.

I just love the fact that Ed got back up and finished the speech.
